If you want to control something first you need to understand it, so what is mind basically? how it works? Our mind is made up of our thoughts , without thoughts mind doesn't work .
Our mind keep itself busy & overcrowded by feeding thoughts to it. Having less thoughts or no thoughts in mind makes you peaceful or calm , that is the main tactic to control it.
Controlling mind is the tough job. Most of us get tired of controlling or forcing it .Mind with the thoughts is the real trouble .Mind generally tends to generate negative thoughts only.
As there are two types of time zones :
1) Clock time - means time of present moments as per clock
2) Psychological time - means time when we have either thoughts of past or thoughts of future
Mind always want to remain functional through psychological time, so our mind remains active by thinking either of past regrets or worries for future.
Thinking is not bad at all but when the same thinking causes suffering then it has to be stopped .
When we have so many disturbing thoughts going on in our mind, then we start feeling anxious & worried , these thoughts are mostly of negative in nature. When we have positive thoughts in our mind that gives us feeling of happiness & good emotions.
Whenever we focus on present moments, our ongoing thoughts in mind subsides and we start feeling light in our head. Overcrowded thoughts in mind is real culprit for troubling us.
Why our mind chatter ? keep on thinking unnecessarily ?
We always keep our thoughts active by feeding mind with psychological time. We have to liberate mind from thoughts then only we will be free from our mind chatter & troubles it causes due to overthinking.
We keep our-self cursing for our past mistakes ,regrets, decisions, faults, memories, so free yourself from psychological time of past by forgiving others as well as yourself.
We always keep our mind occupied with thoughts of future events. Worrying is negative thoughts of future events which causes anxiety & depression.
As our body doesn't understand whether these thoughts are real in nature or imaginary, body responds to it considering it as real and happening right now.
So body creates emotions as per thoughts we have in our mind , so we start feeling tensed or stressed by simply imagining thoughts of future fears or worries .
"Never ever try to control your mind , simply free your mind from negative thoughts"
Accept that thoughts will be there in our mind, don't try to control them simply observe them , after sometime they will disappear automatically.
If we get trapped by our ongoing thoughts or try to resist it, then it will create too much mess up in our mind.
Creative use of mind is for storing memory so that whenever we require we can retrieve from it & can be used to learn from past mistakes. Best use of our thinking process & thoughts is for planning better future events.
Ways to control our mind
1) Release your mind from psychological thoughts of past or future
2) Practice meditation daily so that your mind will be peaceful & calm (focus on breathing )
3) Living in present moments
Best way to free your mind from thoughts is to live in present moments by simply practicing paying attention to activities going on around or observe beautiful nature
4) Divert your thoughts towards doing something creative so mind will stop chattering
5) Keep your mind always engaged with positive thoughts or positive outcomes of futures
6) Keep your mind free from unnecessary thoughts by consistent practice minimizing thoughts
7) Understand craving of mind & renounce materialistic desires and expectations
Final Thoughts
Make habit of keeping your mind free from negative thoughts, always focus on present moments which will free you from psychological thoughts of past & future.
Try to understand unnecessary cravings & desires of mind by consciousness so that you will not be trapped by vicious cycle of negative thoughts and mind chattering.
