Human beings  have 4 dimension of life i.e. Body , Mind , Emotions and Spirit 

Mind is source of creation of thoughts. 

Emotions are co-related with what thoughts are created by your mind. 

Mind creates some thoughts and body responds to these thoughts with respective emotions like happy,joyful,sad,dull,excited,nervous,hopeless,energetic,optimistic , pessimistic etc. 

If you could understand the root cause of generation of negative thoughts and respective negative emotions is MIND. 

So to deal with negative thoughts and negative emotions we need to understand nature of mind.
Why our mind is creating negative thoughts and emotions. 

When your mind creates positive thoughts then you will be happy and you don't have any issue with happy thoughts and feelings. But we struggle when negative thoughts come to mind which create negative emotions  like sad and nervous.

Negative thoughts will go into vicious cycle where you will not be able to control it any more then that will cause a state of depression. We have to understand what causing negative thoughts and how to handle negative thoughts. Once you got trapped in negative thoughts then you will start worrying about future and you will loose confidence. 

You will feel like there is no point living this life with problems, once you loss the hope then you will get attracted towards thoughts of ending this life since you don't find any way to come out of this issue. Also negative thoughts will create fear where you feel like nothing going to happen good in my life, you lose confidence and interest to live life.

Understand what are the causes of you negative thoughts which mentioned above and act on it in reverse way. 

Avoid negative people influences and stay away from news which feed your mind with negativity.

Overcome fear of anything with positive thinking and motivate yourself with past winning stories how you overcome your fear and achieved success in life. 

Positive affirmations will create the mind habit to generate positive thoughts and emotions.  

Don't compare with others, every individual have their own way of life success and failure. We only judge people from outside but we never know what they have gone through to achieve that success. Since grass is always greener on other side, don't get trapped in comparisons.

Accept the way you are , don't try to imitate others. It will create negative thoughts that i don't have that much privilege which others have. You feel nervous for not having beauty , look , money , prestige than others.

Attitude of gratitude will make your like contentment, happy , and fulfilled.
